What are the insurance requirements and costs for sleep tests and telemedicine appointments?

Understanding the insurance requirements and costs for sleep tests and telemedicine appointments can help you make informed decisions about your healthcare. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you navigate these aspects with SleepTest.com.

Insurance Requirements

Verification of Medical Benefits (VOB)

  • Once a patient activates their portal and agrees to the Terms of Service, SleepTest.com performs a complimentary insurance check.
  • The verification typically takes 24-48 hours.
  • Patients receive an email detailing any out-of-pocket costs before proceeding.
  • Note: Out-of-network or HMO plans may not be supported. If coverage is unavailable, patients can opt for cash prices.

Telemedicine Requirements

  • Most insurance carriers require a pre-test telemedicine visit for coverage.
  • Post-test telemedicine visits are mandatory for severe OSA diagnoses and for certain insurers, such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, and United Healthcare, to release therapy prescriptions.
  • Patients must have a functioning email and a device with a camera to conduct the call.

Costs

Cash Payment Option

  • If you choose to pay out-of-pocket and skip insurance, the costs are as follows:
  • $285 for the home sleep test lab.
  • $95 for the pre-test telemedicine visit.
  • $85 for the post-test telemedicine visit, if needed.
  • These fees do not apply to deductibles or co-insurance.

Retesting Fees

  • If there is insufficient data due to patient error and the device is functional, a $99 retest fee applies.
  • If the device malfunctions, retesting is free of charge.
