What are the instructions for performing the sleep test and how should I prepare for it?
Preparing for and performing your sleep test at home is an important step in diagnosing sleep apnea. Follow these steps to ensure accurate results:
Preparing for the Test Night
Ensure you have received your sleep test kit. It should include all necessary equipment, such as the ApneaLink Air, SleepImage Ring, or Nox T3 device.
- Choose a night when you can sleep uninterrupted for at least 5 hours. This is important for collecting enough data.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol before the test, as they affect your sleep patterns.
- Follow the instructions provided with your device. You may need to wear a chest belt, nasal cannula, or ring sensor.
- If using a smartphone app, ensure your phone is charged, Bluetooth is on, and it is placed nearby but not in airplane mode.
- Review the device instructions:
During the Test
- Wear the device as instructed. Make sure all sensors are properly attached and functioning.
- Keep the testing environment quiet and comfortable.
After the Test
Each test should be performed for 2 nights; once both nights are completed:
- Remove the device and pack it back in its original packaging.
- Use the prepaid label to return the device promptly, usually within 5 days of receipt.
- Wait for an email notification about your results, typically available within 4 business days after the device is returned.
The goal of the test is to evaluate a typical night’s sleep and do your best to replicate the usual patterns you go through every day. If you have questions, you can contact sleeptest.com through your patient portal or the contact information emailed to you about the test!
